VCDCutter
is an MPEG, VCD, and movie player, which allows you to extract audio and video streams separately.

A very friendly package, with lots of sensible keyboard shortcuts. I've not found anything else like it. It's great for whizzing through security footage etc. at high speed. I've had problems extracting clips from AVI files, and sometimes I get a GPF trying to save a frame as a BMP, but that might just be on my computer. Have sent e-mail to author but haven't had a reply yet, even though I registered... If these problems are sorted, I'll give VCDCutter 5/5.

It plays AVI files from my Canon camera (G1) well, and it lets me grab stills (though not to the folder I would like).
But I have completely failed to convert AVI to MPG, getting "can't open" messages (despite opening perfectly to view)and there seems no way to ask about this.

Try Copy the same text of the first TextBox, then paste this in the second Textbox and edit the extension "AVI by MPG"

Everything's best exept only 6 or 7 seconds can be cut by share ware version
